Lookout world, here she comes. At 6 months, 1 week, and 2 days old Ainsley began to be mobile - yes, we have a crawler. Granted those first few movements were a bit wobbly and unsure, there she was crawling across the floor to get to what she wanted - the remote control (what does that mean?!?). Since that day my peanut continues to move to whatever she wants, pushes herself up to a sitting position, and plays happily. Then the next minute she's clingy and doesn't want anyone but Mommy or Daddy - guess it's nice that she's not too independent yet.
The day after she started crawling, we had Ainsley's 6 month appointment. She now weighs in at an impressive 12 lb, 3.5 oz, is 24 and 7/8 inches, and has a head of 16 1/4 inches. That makes her in the 10% for height and head size and the 3% for weight - exactly where she was 6 weeks ago. To compare, she's the size of an "average" 4 month old in height and 3 month old in weight. She's just petitie, but that appears how she was made. The doctor is not worried at all because she's a developmental stud. She said that crawling is a 7-8 month skill and pushing herself to a sitting position is a 8-9 month skill. At this rate, the doctor predicted Ainsley will be walking by 10 months. Good lord, I need to start to babyproof the house NOW. Last night, she tried to pull herself up to a standing position.
At daycare Ainsley is the talk of the town right now since she's crawling and so tiny. Everyone comes by to see the little crawler and the parents of older non-crawlers keep telling their kids to check her out. There's one 8 month old in her class who isn't crawling yet and he looks about 2 times her size! My funny little mobile girl!
Ainsley has now eaten about every "baby's first" food there is out there and we've moved on to combination foods. We've also tried homemade mushed banana and mushed avocado to luke-warm success - it doesn't deter me though. We're still going to work on that homemade food. I've got recipies and I know how to use them. She's also started Yo-Baby - a baby-friendly yogurt. Daycare is getting in on the solids routine now, so she's up to 2 times a day on solids. Some times she's totally into them and chows down, and sometimes a couple bites and she's had enough. I'm not pushing it at this point, if she wants food that's fine, if not we'll try again later.
Aunt Becky, Uncle Matt and cousins Maddie, Kaitlyn and Brady brought over a bunch of gently used toys to hand down to Ainsley yesterday. A toy store has officially thrown up in our house. I think the ones they brought over probably increased Ainsleys toy supply about 10x! Included was an exersaucer which she put to good use last night (jeez, those things are noisy), lots of toys she can sit and play with, and a walker toy. Daddy said she tried to pull up on the walker, but didn't really get the hang of having to move along with it (yet), I know it's coming soon. Somewhat sadly, we think the playmat will be going away soon as she's just about outgrown its usefulness.
In her oral development, Ainsley has figured out how to caugh and to faux cry. So now we have to try and figure out when she's just "practicing" and when she's actually caughing or crying.
We had 6 month pictures taken on Halloween and while she was a very happy baby, she was not the perfect baby model she was at 3 months - way too interested in moving around than staying in the poses they were trying to make work. Even with that, we got a few really cute pictures and can't wait for the prints to get in. One cool thing is that they have a photographer come into daycare and take pictures of the kids, so we will basically have a school picture for Ainsley for every year she's alive beginning with about 5 months old. Will be fun to lay them all out 5 months through high school graduation some day (although I can't imagine my baby girl being that old). I totally have the new mom, tons of pictures syndrome!
