I just realized it's been about 6 weeks since I posted about Ainsley's crawling. How time flies! Ainsley is now a full-fledged professional crawler. She crawls to things, away from things, over things, and under things. At daycare she crawls over other kids so she can steal their pacifiers. At home, she crawls under leg barriers and over anything in her way. Recently she's taking to crawling wherever the action is - no more leaving her in the living area and keeping an eye on her from the kitchen. Next thing I know she's IN the kitchen.
She is now a complete pro at pulling up and standing as well. She started off only being able to pull up on solid items, but now anything works. She's even let go with both hands for a short period of time too. She'll even hold on with one hand and lean over to pick something up and stand back up. As with most kids up was first, but down took a bit longer to perfect. She's got that all figured out now too. If there's something for her to stand up and look at, you can bet she'll be standing and looking.
Ainsley continues to grow. She's probably somewhere between 13.5 and 14 pounds now. We'll get an official reading at the end of January at her 9 (!) month appointment. Solidly in 6 month clothes at this point, continuing her trend of being about 2 months or so behind what the tags say on the clothes. Fine with Mommy and Daddy - helps to save money.
Ainsly is now a solid food pro. If she can gum it, she'll eat it for the most part. Some days she's really big on the solids and some days she still prefers milk over anything else. She is a HUGE fan of Cheerio's though. She loves to "chew" them and has gotten very adept at her "pincer" grasp of them and feeding herself.
Thanksgiving was a really special time. We flew out to Oregon and Ainsley met most of Mommy's side of the family including her other Great Grandma. Ainsley did amazing on the long 8 hour flights (one stop over both ways), getting into a pattern of eat, play, diaper change, and sleep in the Ergo on Mommy. Everywhere she went, Ainsley was always the center of attention. We spent two days in a hotel in Seaside where Ainsley loved the coffee table where she could pull up and play. The bars were slightly under the table top, so she did cause a few bonks of the nose. The rest of the trip we stayed with Grandma and Ainsley was treated to a few new toys to play with and lots of area to crawl around. She really learned endurance crawling there. She got her diaper changed on the pool table and bounced in the doorway between the pool room and living room - both like her mommy did when she was little.
While in Oregon Ainsley also got her first experience with SNOW. It snowed one morning, completely unlike Oregon. Luckly we'd purchased a snowsuit the night before (really just for the coat), but we went outside. Ainsley was NOT a fan. We got some great melt-down in the snow pictures. She didn't mind looking at it, but as soon as you put her in it, it was all over.
December brought another month of growth for Ainsley. She's continued to work on her crawling, self-feeding, standing and playing. Her favorite thing in the bathtub is to now stand up in the water! It gives Mommy and Daddy a bit of a flutter to their heart watching her, but she really has no fear of the water. This is something we want to continue.
Most importantly, the first Christmas. Ainsley got more stuff than she'd be able to play with in 3 lifetimes, but was all amazing. She "slept" in until 745, so it was a late start to the morning. She snacked on Cheerios for the first part of the morning in her highchair. She was unimpressed with her new straw and sippy cups (the next adventure). Equally as unimpressed with her new books and clothes, but vey interested in the wrapping paper and everything else she wasn't supposed to be into. She wore her special Christmas morning footie pjs and we got pictures of her with the full Christmas tree. About half way through opening gifts, she was so exhausted she passed out in the Ergo and opened the rest via proxy of Mommy and Daddy. I'm sure next year will be a much more involved holiday. It was fun to have a good celebration with her anyway. It even snowed, so her first Christmas was a white Christmas.
Recently Ainsley has figured out how to whine when she wants something. She's also very much in the Mommy and Daddy phase where if we enter the room she immediately wants to be/be held by us. It's wonderful to know she wants to be with me, but sometimes I just need her to hang out with someone else so I can get things done.
Still no teeth, but they're coming any time soon....
