Ainsley has all of a sudden decided to dictate when people can and cannot do things. Miss Judy says she's the boss at school, telling people when it's their turn to do certain things. This is cute at school - everyone gets their turn and the teacher has a little helper. This is not so cute at home when we are doing basic, everyday, necessary things like going up the stairs. A trip up the stairs sounds something like this:
Mommy: Come on Ainsley, lets go upstairs and _____ (take a bath, change a diaper, change Mommy's clothes, feed the cats, dance a jig, prepare for a trip to the moon...)
Ainsley: [runs to stairs and starts to climb, while holding the handrail that she can.just.barely.reach]
Mommy: [starts to follow 31" toddler up the stairs to prevent falling]
Ainsley: NO MOMMY, not your turn. Ainsley's turn.
Mommy: [takes hand off rail, continues to follow small, stubborn child up stairs]
Ainsley: NO MOMMY, not your turn. Ainsley's turn go up stairs.
Mommy: [stops]
Ainsley: [finishes climbing stairs and looks at Mommy like "why are you just standing there"]
Mommy: Can I come upstairs now too?
Ainsley: No.
Mommy: How about NOW....
Ainsley: Uh huh.
Mommy: [rolls eyes and wonders how she will survive the next 11 months and 1 week of Ainsley being 2]
This is just one example of things that it has NOT been Mommy's turn to do. Then again, last night Ainsley decided we all needed to take turns jumping off of her stool...in the middle of putting away the dinner dishes and cleaning up. Easy for Ainsley to do as she's not cleaning things up - harder for Mommy and Daddy to do as we are carrying plates, glasses, condiments, and leftovers. And she would get MAD if you didn't take your turn when she said it was your turn. "Mommy's turn." "MOMMY'S TURN JUMP." "MOOOOOMMMMMMY'S TURN JUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I'm hoping this is a phase....
