With the middle of June rolling around, my facebook is crammed full of two things (1) teacher friends celebrating the beginning of summer and (2) parent friends posting about the end of the school year and start of summer. In the world of preschool though, neither is applicable. Ainsley still goes to school next week in the same classroom, with the same amazing Miss Judy, with the same peers and on the same schedule. The "end" of our year isn't until the end of August. (Side note - just a wonderful work of planning on our part to have Squrit 2 due at the exact same time. As if a new sibling isn't going to be enough "new," there will be a new classroom, new teachers, new schedule, and everything. Parenting fail!)
There are small changes at school for the summer - certain extra items don't continue over the summer such as music and "Cat's play" (gym). Those are mostly replaced with extra cost optional programs - Stretch and Grow for Ainsley. There's the addition of water play starting next week - which means Mommy and Daddy have to remember to dress Ainsley appropriately, pack extra clothes (and mark such extra clothes as Ainsleys), and apply copious amounts of sunscreen every Wednesday. There will also be a weekly visit from Kona Ice. For what we pay for daycare, you'd think they could roll that $1 a week per kid cost into the budget...nope, parents have to agree to pay an extra $15 for a weekly treat for their kid. Who is going to be the one parent in the room that says "no" - yeah right. Imagine that conversation...no thanks.
Ainsley also goes back to soccer this weekend for the summer. She's going into the more advanced class with probably all older kids, so we'll see how it goes. We may need to move her back down, but I didn't want her to be bored!! I'm glad we're doing the first session in the mornings, as the summer goes on it could get VERY hot later in the day.
