If this update was a library book I'd probably owe like $5.00 in fines by now. Seriously. It's been 2 weeks, which when your kid is only 15 weeks old, is a long time. Much has happened in that time period as well.
Last week Ainsley went on her first vacation to the beach. We were able to borrow a friend's sun tent for the beach, but even then she was not very impressed or taken with the sand and the beach. We only made it for about half an hour or so before it was time to pack up and head back to the house. Thankfully it was a short walk (about 1.5 blocks). All in all, she was a real trooper for the week. We stayed with friends and there were a total of 5 kids aged 6 and under in the house, with Ainsley being the youngest. We shared a room, and Ainsley slept amazingly in her Pack 'n Play. I'm secretly happy we got to spend the whole week with her sleeping in the room with us again - hearing her little baby noises in the middle of the night is so much fun!
Ainsley put her piggy toes into the Atlantic Ocean and the sand (photos to come). She didn't seem all that thrilled with the cold water, but we made it through a few waves before she REALLY let us know she didn't like it.
The week started off a bit rough in that it appeared she hadn't gained weight in the past couple of weeks and our doctor called concerned. I will admit there was an emotional couple of hours trying to understand what we needed to be doing and why, but in the end it all worked out. A week later she weighed in at a whopping 10lb 7oz (and growing)!
Speaking of how she looks - she's really filling out. I think she's starting to look more like me now that her cheeks are filling out (the more kissable), and her little legs are really strong now! While standing looking in the mirror a week or so ago, we determined that she has one of each of our ears - really funny. Her left ear is Chris's and her right ear is mine.
Ok, back to vacation. A trip to the beach means that there's a long drive down and back involved as well. Which results in interesting places to breast feed, including the parking lot of a Shell gas station and a diaper change in the parking lot of a McDonalds. With all that, we can't really complain about how she did in the (very very stuffed) car.
Before we went to the beach, it was time for Ainsley's cousin B's 1st birthday party. I can't believe her 1st birthday is only 9 months away. About that time we started thinking about how Ainsley has been a part of our life for a whole year now, and how B was born right around the time Ainsley was conceived. Amazing how life works. It was a great time to see all of the family and to get a small glimpse at what little kid birthday parties are like. There were about 10 kids there 5 and under - oh my!!
Ainsley is still THISCLOSE to rolling all the way over. In fact, daycare said that yesterday while she was all wrapped up for her nap she did it (accidentially I'm telling myself). She will get everything - head, legs, hips, tummy, over except her shoulder. Once she gets up and over that shoulder, she'll be rolling over and we won't be able to stop her. We did a bunch of floor time on vacation to allow her to work at rolling, and tummy time to work on those muscles too. She's starting to push up with her upper body, which is the first step to wriggling and crawling.
In other developments, she's figured out how to hold her bottles. Daycare took pictures yesterday of her chilling on the floor basically feeding herself. Nan Nan also got to see how she can hold it herself. Mommy and Ainsley are still breast feeding, but for daycare and supplements it looks like she's becoming and independent woman very young (Mommy is a bit afraid at what this means for the future....).
Ainsley loves to "stand" and to sit up and watch the world go by. She's got pretty much complete control of her head now, and as a result she's been riding face-forward in her Bjorn lately. Not as much fun for the wearer, but she gets to be upright and watching what's happening. She's also just as happy to have you hold her standing up or sitting and watching. She's also really gotten into playing with items and can occupy herself for a half hour or more on her playmat playing with her rings or other items. It is so much fun to just sit and watch her explore the world. I find myself sometimes wondering what she's thinking about. We recently bought her a big bouncy station and tried her out in it - she's still a bit small (we have to wrap a blanket around her to keep her upright and put a box under her feet), but I can already tell there will be MANY hours of fun for her spent in it. Just another way to keep her upright and learning.
Ainsley's other new activity is grunting. Not frustrated grunting, just randomly grunting because she can. She'll be "talking" and then all of a sudden.."gggrrrruuunnnnntttt". Just trying out her new noises. I've yet to catch it on video, but I'm going to work hard to do so.
I'm sure I'll think of more things that need to be added to this update soon. I know I need to post pictures again, I just haven't had time to get them off of the camera! So for those of you who are reading (if any) be patient with me!
