Temperatures in Richmond this summer have been WAY above normal - about 20 degrees. Today is forecast to be the 5th day so far above the 100 degree mark. Thank goodness for airconditioning...except that we have such high celings in our apartment that even with the AC cranked it was still 80 degrees inside last night. Ainsley was hot, tired, and grumpy for most of the afternoon. She was so hot she even had a little heat rash. So we spent the better part of a couple hours trying to console our little girl yesterday. It was a bit jarring for us since it was the first time we really didn't know what to do to make her happy. We made her a naked baby (with a diaper), went to the coolest room of the house, took a cool bath, offered her food, laid her down, held her, sang, shushed, walked, rocked, etc. Finally I think her temp went down and she downed some food from a bottle and balanced out, then passed out...for about an hour until she was hungry again.
Today she's at daycare where she should stay a bit cooler than at our apartment, but they have their issues too. I have to say I'm really glad I'm not hugely pregnant this time of year, but it is hard with a little one who is still getting her body all figured out. There is a reason we didn't move to somewhere farther south than Richmond, but Mother Nature seems to have missed the memo that Richmond isn't supposed to be in the 100s consistently during the summer. Here's hoping it cools down SOON!
